Studies the heat transfer process of outdoor units with ambient air by a similarity scale model substituting for the actual one. With outdoor units of an actual VRF air conditioning system as prototype and the dimensionless similarity number of Gr/Re2 as similarity criteria, expounds the design process of similarity model of geometric scale 1/3 based on similarity relation of heat source intensity deduced from the energy balance equation. Obtains the velocity and temperature distribution of heat transfer of the similarity model, and compares it with that of prototype test results. The appropriate agreement verifies the accuracy of similarity criteria and practicability of the similarity model used to study the heat transfer of outdoor units with ambient air.
